Season 3, Episode 13: Syzygy

Synopsis

Three high school boys have died in the course of three months in the city of Comity, and a satanic cult is suspected. Two girls who were with the latest victim at the time of his death corroborate this, but also show distinct signs of creepiness. Scully is skeptical, despite a strange incident where a coffin bursts into flames at a funeral. She and Mulder snipe at each other rather uncharacteristically, while Mulder and the local detective flirt it up.

The townspeople are out for blood after finding bones buried in a field, but it turns out they only belong to Terri's deceased dog. Terri and Margi kill the girlfriend of a boy they have a crush on; Terri doesn't seem to care much for the boy after he snubs them, but Margi isn't so sure. They two get into a telekinesis fight over the issue...killing the kid by mistake. Meanwhile, a psychic tells Mulder that the alignment of the planets is what's causing the funkiness in the relationships, and that the cosmos' energy is focused on those born in 1979 on the day of the alignment, such as Terri and Margi.

The two girls each pick an agent and blame the other for the deaths. Despite their newfound disdain for one another, Mulder and Scully agree to bring the girls both in for questioning. After the girls cause more mayhem in the police station, Mulder manages to isolate them both in a storeroom; they are found soon after the clock passes midnight, clinging to each other and terrified. The townsfolk decide it was Satan after all.

Ryan Reynolds, pre-fame in a small role as Jay "Boom" DeBoom, also starred in Two Guys, A Girl, and a Pizza Place and a number of movies, including the recent flick The Proposal (he's also married to Scarlett Johansson, the lucky guy). Lisa Robin Kelly, playing Terri Roberts, also played Laurie Forman on That '70s Show.
